Nizamuddin Basti Walk

July 24, early hours of morning, Sun was making its way for another splendid day and so did we. Nizamuddin basti was the destination explorers choice to discover era of Saint Hazrat Nizamuddin Aulia and Mirza Galib.




Area of Nizamuddin is famous for Qawwalis and Karim. Mohammad Umair from Aga Khan foundation accompanied us through the walk and told us some of the interesting stories and facts about the monuments. 


House of head priest at Kalan Mosque
Umair stopped at this house and to our surprise this house in yellow is the biggest in the area and the residence for head priest of Kalan mosque.

It is used for regular prayers and also acts as a serai for religious people, who would like to learn more about Muslim teachings.

Urs Mahal next to Chaunsath Khamba, serves as space for yearly Qawwali festival.

After discovering tomb of Ataga Khan, it was time to visit shrine of Hazrat Nizamuddin Aulia.

Mehrauli Archaeological Park "Must visit monuments"

10 July 11, Sunday morning at 0630 AM, four destination explore people took task of exploring other places of interest in and around Qutab Minar Mehrauli.

Adam Khan's Tomb
Tour started from Adam Khan's Tomb (Opposite Mehrauli bus stand), It is an octagonal structure dating 1561 AD. In 1830 British officer Blake converted it as a Residential apartment and dinning hall. Later Lord Curzon restored the Tomb.

Gandhak Ki Baoli
10 Minute walk lies Gandhak Ki Baoli "Unique five story step well" used for conservation of water. It was built by Sultan of Delhi, Iltutmish for Sufi saint Qutbuddin Bakhtiar Kaki. It is known as Gandhak ki baoli because of smell of Sulphur. 





Unnamed Tombs Near Rajon Ki Baoli
These are two unnamed tombs near Rajon Ki Baoli.Dates back to Lodhi period.

Rajon ki baoli
It is three-storeyed step well and is said to be build in 1516 AD. It was used by masons for some time and there after named as Rajon Ki baoli.

Stairs at Rajon ki Baoli at the right will take you to the Mosque and a Tomb. 

Jamali - Kamali Mosque
Jamali - Kamali Mosque is one of the best kept secret of Qutab Area. It was built during 1528 - 29 AD. Jamali was a Sufi Poet. 

Tomb of Kamali lies next to the Mosque.
